Caminante no hay camino
“Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar”
(Traveler, there is no road; you make your own path as you walk)
- Antonio Machado
Keeping up with a full time mural painting schedule while trying to maintain an active art studio practice going is like living with two different dog breeds that are constantly trying to kill each other while trying to eat of off the same plate… I guess I’m the plate in this analogy.
Maybe instead of trying to create an alternate reality where I can just keep these two in separate cages in the same house, I should just follow the path of least resistance and let them spend some time out in the yard playing together and learning how to get along.
I honestly don’t know, at this moment, what that translates to down the line when it comes to what type of work I create, but I’ll prefer to spend my time figuring that out by doing something about it, sharing thoughts, sketches, middle of the work day flashes of inspiration, etc. My goal is to stay in touch with the creative self, to stay active as an artist, and to keep the internal, and hopefully, external dialogue going about things that matter. I will make a commitment to send out a weekly newsletter with whatever artistic musings I believe would be worth sharing from each week.
